Harry Potter Day, Star Wars Day, Hats on for Mental Health Day, and Cinco de Mayo

What a busy week we had celebrating and acknowledging different days this week.  Monday was Harry Potter Day and we celebrated by making wands and Butterbeer. While the wand making was a hit, the Butterbeer did not go over.  Afterwards some students had spell duels or just swung their wands around.

On Wednesday, we acknowledged Star Wars day with poems from the book I wish I had a Wookie. More importanyly, though, we celebrated Hats on for Mental Health by reading a social story around How does your engine run?  Next, we chose how our engine was running by circling different emojis that represented how each student was doing.

Lastly, we acknowledged Cinco de Mayo by reading the book Marco's Cinco de Mayo found on Epic books and then listened to some mariachi music.  On the learning side of things, we moved forward to counting objects with prompts as we work towards our overarching goal of understanding the relationship between numbers and objects.  As well, some of the students have begun double digit addition with no regrouping and have found using the Unifix cubes as their main strategy.
